At Saros we only hold onto your basic information (which you can access and update via your basic profile). While we used to store more detailed profiles, we found that things like attitudes, tastes, tech behaviours and much more change over time and so we would invariably have to ask you again anyway to ensure your answers were up to date and accurate.
Sometimes this may mean that you receive invitations that you do not feel are suitable and you might ask yourself why you have been invited. Well, we’d rather keep invitations as open as possible, that way you will never miss out. It’s up to you if you want to apply, delete it or maybe even forward on to a friend or family member who you think might be more suitable.
And so, back to the questions. The process begins when we get a brief in from a client. This brief will request that they see specific users (or non users) of their product, brand, app, prototype website, packaging or concept etc. Our job is to then build an online questionnaire that, by asking particular questions, narrows down (via the answers that are given) to the right type of person the client is looking for.
For example, if we ask a question like: “How often do you….” we might be looking for answers with low frequency or high frequency, or both types, but we can’t make it obvious what it is that we need as that would skew the results and prevent you from giving a fully genuine response. The success of our recruitment is based on the absolute genuineness of our members. This is why we may also ask you to check things (like brands, makes, models, operating systems etc.) to be sure you’re definitely the target our client wants to speak to.
Another reason for asking such broad questions is that unfortunately, when cash payment is involved, some people may be inclined to “stretch the truth” in order to participate. This would invalidate the entire research process, into which so many hours of development, time and investment is made. The quality service that Saros has built its reputation on and why so many clients use us, requires us to be robust and transparent to ensure our clients’ needs are genuinely met.
So, asking the questions that we do is the best way we have found of treating everyone fairly (both you and our clients) and getting real, honest answers. However, if you’ve had a light bulb moment whilst reading this, we are always open to suggestions.
In the meantime, we promise always to keep our screening questionnaires as short as possible!
